Meet the film’s director Jeffrey Jeturian.

Depicting the shooting and the daily life on set of a popular soap opera, The Bit Player draws the portrait of an aspiring though aging actress whose dreams of fame and success are met with the cruelty and the pettiness of the people among the industry.

Although cruel and tear-jerking at times, this feature is mostly a vivid and hilarious take on the reality of these unsung heroes who sit and wait for days on end to be, at best, allowed to grab a few seconds on screen and maybe, for the luckiest, to be given a few lines to deliver in front of their much more wealthy and famous counterparts.

The stellar yet subtle performance of Vilma Santos is naturally one of the main strengths of the movie, one can however also be thrilled and enthused by this acid yet moving immersion into the world of filmmaking, intertwining the grotesque and the tragic in a common burst of laughs and tears.
