How To Disappear Completely

How To Disappear Completely

Meet the film’s producer Arleen Cuevas and the artist Lilibeth Cuenca.

The latest film by acclaimed director Raya Martin (Independencia, A Short film about the Indio Nacional) chronicles the day-to-day of a young girl living in a remote countryside with her parents, both too obsessed with their own issues and vices to notice how their daughter is struggling with internal conflicts of her own. It is a tale about the slow decay of the old moral values of family and catholicism that used to bind society together, in favour of a New Order founded on indifference, hatred and overall moral spinelessness.

In the midst of this reality on the verge of collapse, Martin does not necessarily indulge himself to utter nihilism and unretrievable pessimism. He may depict the end of the world as we know it, coldly pointing out the failures of his elders, and describing a youth left with their anger and frustration as their sole moral compasses; however, acknowledging the disease might just be the first step towards containing it. Ultimately, this film is a tale of love and a cry for redemption.

Event: The film will be followed by a talk by Arleen Cuevas and Lilibeth Cuenca about Experimental Art.
